Mechanical Issues Continue to Dog the SSA

Mechanical issues continue to plague the ferries of the Steamship Authority.

The SSA announced this morning that the M/V Woods Hole has been taken out of service for the day.

The SSA will run additional trips on the M/V Sankaty and the M/V Gay Head today to accommodate vehicles that were scheduled to travel.

SSA personnel continue to work to identify the cause of the pitch alarm for the starboard propeller that reoccurred Monday night on the boat’s last trip for the day. Earlier in the day on Monday, when the alarm occurred, engineering and maintenance staff replaced the actuator.

The authority has canceled over 500 trips so far this year because of various issues.
