Hyannis FF to be Feted for Actions During Ferry Crash


Nine members of the Hyannis Fire Department will be the recipients of a 2017 “Firefighter of the Year” award.

The firefighters are being recognized for their work the night of June 16 when the Steamship Authority’s high-speed ferry, “Iyanough”  struck the jetty in Hyannis, injuring 15 of the 57 passengers and crew onboard.

The Hyannis firefighters being honored are Captain William Rex, Lt. Jeff Lamothe, Lt. David Webb, and firefighters Wendy Austin, John Dailey, Paul Medeiros, Chris Murphy, Pete Nagorka, and Kyle Wiley.

The 28th Annual “Firefighter of the Year” awards will be presented November 21 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
