Hyannis Man Facing Felony Trafficking Charges

Yarmouth Police arrested a Hyannis man Monday after he fled from officers who were watching him in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop on Long Pond Drive in South Yarmouth.

In taking flight, the man dropped a powder-filled plastic bag.

The officers quickly apprehended the individual, Gilver Jimenez, 29, and the bag he dropped.

A drug-detection K9 was called to the scene where it detected drugs in Jimenez’s car. A search of that car uncovered more than 56 grams of cocaine and more than 32 grams of heroin.

Jimenez was charged with felony trafficking both cocaine and heroin.

In Barnstable District Court yesterday, he was ordered held without bail for previous probation violations.

Yarmouth Police say they are continuing to combat the deadly, illegal drug epidemic that has led to more than 100 known overdoses and 11 deaths in the town this year, the most recent on Monday when officers found an unconscious 26 year old in a home in yarmouth.

The use of narcan and other efforts were unable to save the individual’s life.
