Overturned Boat Dumps 12 Into Buzzards Bay

An 18-foot boat overturned in Buzzards Bay Wednesday afternoon, depositing twelve people into the water.

The event was witnessed by a nearby boater who alerted the Coast Guard. A Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Air Station Cape Cod and a 45-foot boat from Station Cape Cod Canal.

When the rescue boat arrived at the scene, another boater had pulled nine of the twelve people out of the water on to his boat. The Coast Guard was able to locate and secure two more people but an 8-year old boy was still missing. One diver, Michael Margulis, says he happened to be in the right place at the right time. He found the youngster in the bow of the overturned boat. The boy was wearing a lifejacket.

The unconscious youngster was flown, by MedFlight, to Boston Children’s Hospital where he remains this morning. There has been no information given on his condition.

The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
