Crocker Legislation Aims to Protect Law Enforcement

Second Barnstable District State Representative Will Crocker has filed a bill that would make assaulting police officers a felony.

The Centerville Republican’s bill, H-749, would make a second offense of assault and battery on law enforcement officials a felony. It is currently a misdemeanor.

Crocker, this week, testified before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary in support of the proposed legislation. At that hearing Crocker said, “An assault on law enforcement is an assault on all citizens of the Commonwealth, for what an assault on a police officer promotes is lawlessness – and lawlessness puts us all in jeopardy.”
