Carter Found Guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter

Michelle Carter has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for her texts to her high school boyfriend urging him to commit suicide.

Juvenile court judge Lawrence Moniz found Carter responsible in the death of Conrad Roy III, saying her actions exhibited wanton and reckless conduct.

Carter was 17 years old when she sent Roy the texts urging him to commit suicide. The 18-year old Roy was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in his truck in July 2014 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.

Judge Moniz will pronounce sentencing at a later date. Carter’s punishment could range from probation to 20 years in prison.
